Coup Scare: VP Osinbajo, Tinubu to be arrested Oligarchs, Army majors fingered in plot Army chief, Buratai in the dark

Sensing another scenario that would signal the loss of political power and a replay of the latePresident  Musa Yar’Adua/Goodluck Jonathan scenario, elements from the core north are allegedly making undercover moves  to salvage the situation should President Muhammadu  Buhari die in office or resigns due to illness.

Recall that late  Yar’Ádua from Katsina State, where Buhari hails from in the North-west geo-political zone,  died in office in 2010 after a protracted illness, automatically forcing  the zone to relinquish power, following the constitutional provision and zoning arrangement adopted by the then ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with the swearing in of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Pointblanknews.com checks have revealed a plot by northern oligarchs, using the military to create confusion and ensure that power is retained in the zone.
It was gathered that an army major and Buhari’s kinsman (names withheld), who is a member of the presidential guard, has been given the nod by the plotters to coordinate the alleged putsch.

The planned violence, security sources revealed, would be activated in the event that the president is declared incapable of continuing with the business of governance.

Pointblanknews.com has also uncovered an interesting part of the plot. The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, are to be arrested and accused of being part of the plot to poison the president.

The Northern Elders Forum recently declared that  Osinbajo cannot replace President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 should anything happen to Buhari who has been abroad for a medical follow-up.

Chairman of Northern Elders Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, said should President Muhammadu Buhari failed  to seek re-election in 2019, the North must retain the presidency by fielding a candidate through the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Dr Junaid Mohammed spoke in same vein last week ” one thing I know is that, if Vice President (Yemi) Osinbajo becomes the president from whatever date to 2019, he cannot contest that position again…if we don’t have a remedy for it, it may lead to the breakup of the country. We should be very careful. It cannot be the kind of thing which happened under Yar’Adua whether you call it divine intervention or Doctrine of Necessity. This time around, the concept has to be revisited and those who have lost out twice have to be compensated. Otherwise, there may not be much of Nigeria to think or talk about and our democracy will be gone.”

Pointblanknews.com further learnt that considering the fierce loyalty of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Yusuf Buratai to President Buhari, and Buhari’s sympathy and benevolence to the Kanuri stock as evidenced in his appointments from the North-east geo-political zone, Buratai and his kinsmen are being carefully avoided in the plot.
Unknown to Buratai, Hausa-Fulani officers attached to his office and other strategic army formations in the country are being recruited into the plot. They are expected to neutralise any counter measures to be deployed by the army chief.

Sequel to Tuesday’s  statement by Buratai  about a subterranean plot to sack the current administration via a coup , it was gathered that the recent redeployment in the Nigerian Army was not unconnected with the alarm.

Just hours after he left Nigeria, Buratai, it was learnt, requested to see the Osinbajo.

At the meeting in the presidential villa, Abuja, Buratai was said to have presented Osinbajo with intelligence that some prominent politicians were hobnobbing with Army officers and soldiers in a bid to compromise them.

Osinbajo, it was gathered, thanked Buratai and said he trusted the Army Chief to put his officers and soldiers in check.

Buratai responded by pledging his loyalty to the Buhari administration and hinted that he would carry out “immediate changes”, to counter any plan to topple government.

Bodies of two ladies who were reportedly abducted, raped and murdered by unknown men have been discovered in a dump site in South Africa.

A few weeks after the discovery of the burnt body of a pretty South African lady, Karabo Mokoena was discovered, the police have discovered two bodies of young ladies who were abducted, raped and murdered where they were dumped.

Soweto Times report that bodies of the two ladies identified as Popi Qwabe and Bongeka Phingula,  who were close friends, were found at a dumping site in Tladi informal settlement, Johannesburg, on the morning of Tuesday, May 16, 2017, a few days after they were reported missing.

According to reports, they were assaulted, raped and shot dead after they went missing on Friday, May 12.

Phungula was said to have graduated from the Durban University of Technology and recently moved to Johannesburg to pursue an acting career while Qwabe is from Zola, Soweto.

Their friends had brought the notice of their disappearances on the social media where they pleaded with people to help look for them. But little did they know that their friends had been murdered and dumped by the unknown men.

INHABITANTS of Akinyele and Lagelu local government areas of Oyo State were recently joined by their neighbours from communities surrounding Eniosa, in Lagelu Local Government Area, such as Olorunda-Aba, Aroro, Ojoo, Orita Merin and Arulogun to converge on the Chief N. O. Idowu Comprehensive Health Centre, Eniosa, for the 2017 Annual Ibadan Medical Outreach of a United States-based non-governmental organisation, the Gifted Hands Foundation.

The three-day programme was kicked off with the dispensation of free services to the beneficiaries by members of a medical team from the United States, together with experts from the University Teaching Hospital (UCH), Ibadan. The services covered treatments of typhoid fever, high blood pressure, malaria fever and several other ailments.

The brains behind the outreach, Mr Wale Ishola, said the need to give back to the society informed the decision to embark upon the medical exercise. He said the government could not be left alone to shoulder the responsibility of the welfare of the people, hence the need to lend a hand. He reiterated the commitment of “Gifted Hands” to partnering with the UCH, Ibadan, on a yearly basis to bring medical succour to the underprivileged. He said his sojourn in the United States of America in the last 21 years assisted him in designing programmes that would alleviate the sufferings of the underprivileged.

The second day saw the medical experts from UCH deliver lectures on how to access quality healthcare. It was a gathering of who is who in the medical world at the auditorium of the College of Medicine, UCH, Ibadan. Topics bordering on life-threatening diseases were exhaustively discussed. The medical team later paid homage to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, at his Popoyemoja palace at the heart of the city. The team was received by the traditional ruler with his wives and members of the Olubadan-in-Council.

In his remark during the reception, Oba Adetunji commended Mr Ishola for having the love of his fatherland at heart. He then called on other sons and daughters of Ibadanland in the Diaspora to emulate take a leaf from Dr Ishola and his Gifted Hands initiative and come home to impact the society that made them.

Responding, Mr Ishola thanked the Olubadan, his wives and members of the council for the warm reception accorded the team. He said he was spurred to action by the plight of the underprivileged. He assured Oba Adetunji that the medical exercise would continue to hold yearly.

President Muhamamdu Buhari, has on Thursday, overruled the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo’s decision to sign the 2017 budget, despite being on medical vacation.

Buhari made his position known through his Special Assistant On National Assembly Matters (Senate), Itang Enang.

Recall, that Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, ha​d ​​​stated that his principal (Osinbajo), will sign the budget.

“Just so we are clear: when the time comes, everything is set, & he is satisfied, Ag. President Yemi Osinbajo will assent to the 2017 Budget,” he tweeted on Wednesday night.

The confusion came as the  Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said after last Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, that there is no decision yet on who will assent to the 2017 budget.

However, in an interview with Channels TV, Enang stated that the budget would be transmitted to Buhari, who will sign it, and then transfer it to the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.

“Osinbajo will not sign it. The 2017 budget will be transmitted to Mr President, and the President will assent to the budget.

“The Acting President is in office, and when the budget is transmitted, it will go through the processes, and all those other questions will answer itself”, he said.

Lai Mohammed had also said: “In respect on the budget, it was only this morning that the Minister of National Planning informed the Council that the budget has been passed. He has not sent to us individually, copies of the passed budget.

“We now need to look at it against what we sent, and if there are any discrepancies, we will report back to the Minister of Budget and National Planning on harmonization.”

Fear of a possible coup d’etat in Nigeria has emerged, as reports reaching Post-Nigeria, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari may defy his Doctors’ order, and cut short his medical vacation, to forestall the occurrence.

Recall, that the 74-year-old Head of State, spent nearly two months on his medical leave in London, earlier this year.

He left again on 7th May, handing over power to the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

Analysts had previously warned that Buhari’s prolonged absence, could spark a power struggle ahead of the 2019 Presidential election, should the Leader become incapacitated.

According to a source who spoke in confidence to Post-Nigeria via telephone: “Information reaching us has it that Buhari is planning to cut short his medical vacation, because of fear of a possible military coup.’”

“Meanwhile, the information is still very vague. But I can assure you that Mr. President is no longer comfortable with the news of a possible military coup. His presence can douse a lot of tension. I can assure you that he will definitely cut short his leave.”

This came as the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has now warned Army officials, against becoming involved in the country’s politics.

He made the remarks on 16th May, after the Nigerian Army received information that, “some individuals have been approaching some Officers and Soldiers, for undisclosed political reasons.”

Also speaking, a top security source stated: “A coup is not likely to happen, given the precedent. There was similar pressure in 2010, with Yar’Adua terminally ill, but the soldiers stayed in their barracks.”

However, Buratai’s statement prompted the UK embassy in Nigeria, to issue a warning against “non-democratic” change of government in the country.

“There are elections. If you’re not happy with your leaders, then you should change your leadership through the democratic process and through elections”, the UK High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright said earlier.

Although Analysts seem to believe a coup is possible but unlikely, there are fears that some Politicians loyal to Buhari, a Muslim from the North, could obstruct Osinbajo, a Christian from the South.

“Northern leaders will try to get a concrete deal that will at best, see Osinbajo step down for a Northern candidate to run in the 2019 poll”, a source said.

“If that agreement cannot be reached, some figures may resort to extreme measures to get their way, and so a coup isn’t ruled out, considering the top military establishments are in the North, and Northern soldiers dominate the Army.”

UK-based Security Analyst and Counter-Terrorism Expert, David Otto, believes a coup could succeed, only if Northerners were behind it, given the perception that top positions within the Army, are covered by people from Northern Nigeria.

“If a coup were to occur in Nigeria, with the composition of the military, it will not be successful, if a Southerner was behind it”, he said.

“There could be genuine fear from the so called ‘Northern Cabal’ (elite from northern Nigeria), that what happened with the previous leader Yar’Adua could happen to President Buhari: Leaving Osibanjo, a Southern Christian, to take charge and maybe run in 2019.

“The fact that Buhari is out of the country indefinitely is not good for Nigeria stability. President Buhari must either return to Nigeria , disclose what’s wrong with him or put the interests of the country [first] and resign as a result of his unfortunate ill health”, Otto concluded.

In no more than an hour, after the report of her death hit Nollywood practitioners, a crowd had besieged her Magodo house as many of them couldn’t believe the news that was filtering in.

The disbelief soon turned into overwhelming sorrow when it was confirmed that the 42-year-old mother of two had indeed passed away.

Many of her colleagues among them, Ronke Odusanya, Doris Simeon, Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, Ronke Ojo (Oshodi Oke) whom we spotted there were still in a state of shock and could not convey in words the pain they were feeling.

At press time, more people had arrived at the house requiring a tent to accommodate the grieving well wishers. Her aged mother sat in silence, looking blank as she struggles to come to terms with the loss of her daughter.

A cousin who spoke to us said that Moji Olaiya breathed her last at 3am in an ambulance that was taking her to the hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at her friend’s Ontario home.

Moji Olaiya is survived by her two parents – her father is highlife icon Victor Olaiya, her two daughters – one aged 20 and the other only two months old – who she had gone to Canada to deliver.
